KLPE delegation led by Chairman of the Board — Alzhan Imashev visited Atyrau Oil Refinery and KPI LLP. During the meeting at the Atyrau Refinery, KLPE representatives were told about the development of the petrochemical production (production of paraxylene and benzene), about the three past stages of the plant’s modernization and about the unique product that had appeared at the plant after the modernization — Khazar-32 low-viscosity diesel fuel.

Then the delegation met with the management of KPI and got acquainted with the construction progress of the Integrated Gas and Chemical Complex (phase I - production of polypropylene), located at the special economic zone "National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark". It includes technological units for propane dehydrogenation (PDH), propylene polymerization (PP), which is being built using the licensed Lummus Technology, and 32 large infrastructure facilities. The production capacity is 500 thousand tons of polypropylene per a year.

In turn, KLPE representatives told the petrochemists about the project “Construction of an integrated gas-chemical complex in Atyrau region - Second phase (polyethylene)”, which is included into the list of strategic investment projects of the Republic of Kazakhstan and is being developed as part of the State Program for Industrial and Innovative Development.

The project plans to produce large-capacity polyethylene with a capacity of 1.25 million tons per year for sale on the domestic and foreign markets. Gas from oil and gas fields is used as raw materials and it is prepared to the required volume and quality at the Gas Separation Unit. Polyethylene is the basic product and the most common and widely used polymer to produce a wide range of industrial and consumer goods (building materials, pipes, sanitary products, films, medicine, various equipment, foam and other products).

The parties agreed on the prospects for cooperation and mutual exchange of experience between the companies according to the enterprise visit.

KLPE LLP — The owner of 99.9% of the shares is “United Chemical Company”, 0.01% is “Polymer Production” LLP. At present, KLPE LLP has been transferred to trust management to “National Company KazMunayGas” JSC, the Kazakhstan national operator for the exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons. 100 percent of the shares of “KazMunayGas” JSC NC belongs to National Welfare Fund of Samruk-Kazyna” JSC.

The project "Construction of an integrated gas-chemical complex in Atyrau region — Second phase (polyethylene)" is being developed as part of the GPIID and the state program for the development of the petrochemical industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The project is included into the list of strategic investment projects of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
